I love my vinyl and have enjoyed the work of R.E.M. from the very beginning, through the I.R.S. years and then Warner Bros. I’ve seen them live a few times and they nailed it every time. This is due on vinyl this week. Their MTV Unplugged was excellent. Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam also had memorable ones.

If you ever do the yearly Record Store Day, many times you’ll find some great R.E.M. gems. I have a special 3 single R.E.M. set from a few years ago and it’s tremendous.

Back in the 90’s, while a Music Director at a radio station, some of my greatest days were when I received some fresh R.E.M. in the mail. It’s so fresh in my mind. I loved those days: Out of Time, Automatic For The People, Monster (which was/is my fave of the bunch from this period), New Adventures In Hi-Fi etc.

My favorite R.E.M. stuff overall is the earlier material: Murmur (excellent), Reckoning, Fables of the Reconstruction (my favorite), Life’s Rich Pageant, Document and Green.

The final time I saw R.E.M. live, they had The National opening, which is a great band.

R.E.M. and VINYL all the way!
